Please watch and comment on this video. I want to know what you think of what he is talking about and also do you believe that this is something that you would enjoy doing.
Thanks,
Mr. Oliger
I believe what he is talking about is how when kids are motivated to do something because it's cool or fun, they will get a lot more out of it. Because this program is created around something most kids enjoy, sports, they are much more motivated to succeed in it. And even though this seems like it would be an awesome program to join I do not think I would enjoy it personally. I'm not much of an engineer and trying to build a robot would probably make me too frustrated to even think straight!
This idea is amazing. Young adults, a lot of times, are not respected by older adults in the way that was shown in the video. This video proves that there is hope in the future that young adults will thrive with success. Dean Kamen, featured in the video, said, “Look at these kids. They are the future.” That line can not be any truer, for every generation of young adults will bring new innovations and breakthroughs. I like how younger kids are able to experience challenges while being mentored to prepare them for the road ahead. They are learning how to overcome obstacles and solve problems, which are essential in life. It is great to get younger kids interested in learning by also involving fun aspects to it. The kids may not realize it, but they are preparing themselves for success while enjoying it. Education is important, and I believe that this is a great way to promote learning! I think I would enjoy this because engineering and innovation appeals to me. I am not well educated on those concepts though, so I think I would struggle.
First of all Ryley's comment made me laugh; picturing her trying to build a robot is pretty humorous! As far as the video goes, I guess it's nice to see some strive and motivation in the minds of teenagers to be successful while benefiting/improving the world and enjoying themselves. However, I feel less hope for the generation as a whole. Advertisements and things promoting certain programs such as this tend to drown the internet and media to the point where I find it exasperating. Maybe I am just biased because the engineering field isn't one that interests me personally. I'm proud of these people involved and think it seems to be a great thing, but so does just about everything being fed into peoples heads with enticing videos, celebrity appearances, and nothing but positive things to say.
The program shown in the video seems like a positive way to get the young generations to get involved in more academically guided activities than athletic. The kids in the video seemed to enjoy the engineering and mathematics that come along with the program. I, on the other hand, would not enjoy participating in such activities. If this program was side by side with athletics, I would still pick the athletic program. I think it would all have to be determined by the type of person you are.
I think that the prgram from the video looks fun and thrilling because it gives kids and teenagers the oportuntiy to show the skills they have and compete with people who could teach them and add on to the skills already there. Designing it in the aspect of sports is a excellent way to get kids to want to try it out. Everyone is competitive in some way, so I think making science and engineering competitive helps give those types of people a chance to show what they know. In my opinion, it would be a very fun experience to try this program out, even thoughI don't know much about howto build a robot or lego car. The people there that do know could help me to understand and learn the skills that it takes to do so.
Morgan Freeman mentioned, several times, in this video that a person can do anything he/she puts his/her mind to. I find this statement to be prevalent in many professional disciplines. If a person pursues his/her goal and has a deep desire to successfully reach this goal, he/she will find a way to make it happen. This video presented a program that focuses heavily on the STEM academic disciplines, giving participants in the program learning opportunities outside the formal learning environment of a school. I would definitely be interested in a program of this sort; however, the students from the video that represented the participants in this program seemed to have been born programming computers and building robots. In the future, I will feel very comfortable buying a car that was engineered by one of the program's participants.
I believe that what he saying is that if you are motivated by your role models and if you put your mind into what you enjoy the most, you can do great things in the future. Throughout the video they used the comparison of teens being motivated by athletes and movie stars to what is happening in the competitions between the teems in the arena. Teens should be inspired by other bright scientist and do what they love to do. I do belive that this is something that I would enjoy to do because I am very competitive. First, I would have to know a few things about engineering.
I think he is saying that with hard work you can accomplish all your goals even if they are different than most peoples. In the video it showed how much kids look up to athletes and stars and it showed how we want to be like them. We need to look up to workers in the field we want to go into who love what they do. I do not know very much about engineering but I would be interested in learning it.
I believe that he is telling everyone that if you put enough work and effort into something it will turn out better than ever expected. I really like the program shown in this video because the kids and teenagers are the future and it is important to get them liking things like this. The technology is just getting better and having these kids learn more about technology could save lives and the environment in the long run. I also really like how they relate it to sports, because so many kids can really relate to sports and actually want to participate in this event. I would definitely be interested in participating in something like this because engineering is very important in the generation that we live in and I've thought about engineering as a major.
I think that he is saying that if you want something bad enough and you put all your effort into it it will turn out the way you expected it to. This program is very interesting because it shows kids what they want in the future, The technology in this world is getting bigger and better. These kids are leaning how to use them. This would be interesting to go to, I think it would be neat to be able to do something like this in the future.
I think he is trying to say that we can do anything that we set our mind to, we just have to put effort into the things that we do if we really want to achieve our goals. I agree that kids do care a lot about movie stars and things like that. I think it would be a great thing for kids to get more involved into things like engineering and technology and focus less on things like celebrities and movies. Kids just need to realize that technology and those types of things can be just as fun and interesting as movies and celebrities, and it may get you farther in life. Kids just need to find role models in the technology field instead of celebrities.
I believe what he is talking about is how when kids are motivated to do something because it's cool or fun, they will get a lot more out of it.
